Hai Shang Culture Center Presentation

Last month in Shanghai, I was invited to present a lecture and presentation to the members of the Hai Shang Culture Center. The weather was so nice, it reminded me of home in Utah. There was sunshine, periwinkle skies with a slight breeze and random splashes of raindrops.

In general, I love all flowers even if they are considered common or typical. I feel there can be beauty in everything including the little imperfections. However, what I love the most are the seasonal varieties that bloom and subconsciously remind us that time has passed and that the challenges we are experiencing will soon fade. With that in mind, the topic of my floral presentation was titled “Modern Romanticism of Spring”

I chose all white containers in different sizes for repetition-kept flowers primarily grouped unless I was transitioning. Each arrangement was designed as a hand-tied so that they can be given away at the end of the night. I always prefer fresh water over floral foam. The ideal setting would be outside where the heavy scents would perfume the air.

Flowers: Lilacs, Peonies, Viburnum, Tulips, Hyacinths,
Little herbs were mint, and rosemary with complimentary Dracena

Thanks to my lovely translator Maggie for helping me express my creative process.
